The Grow guide
Where growing begins
Every productive garden starts with the same three questions: how much light reaches the ground, where the water will come from, and what the soil is like under your feet. Get those right and almost everything else can be learned along the way.
We start small on purpose. A single raised bed planted well will teach you more in one season than a large plot planted in a hurry. From there, the guides in this pillar move into season extension, soil building and saving your own seed, so that each year asks a little less of the shop and a little more of the garden.
It also takes patience. Some crops reward you in weeks; others, like asparagus or a fruiting mushroom log, take a year or more. We will always tell you which is which.
